After a week of rain, the crew is getting cabin fever. Many wonder if they’ll ever see the light of the sun again, or feel the solid earth beneath their feet. Plants are growing on the floor.

I definitely won’t be making 30k by April 30, but I’m still plugging away, one day at a time. Today I wrote about 600 words. The day before I did 300. As much as I would love to pound out 2,000 or 3,000 words per day, I just don’t have the skill or self control to do that… yet.
This week I had to deal with constant rain, two bored out of their minds pups, bank appointments, and dealing with the constant import of mud and dirt into my house. Yesterday I gave my house a good clean, which is probably one of the best things I could have done to rejuvenate my writing mojo. I don’t know about you, but I find it really hard to be inspired and motivated in a messy or dirty environment.
The constant rain can really bring down your energy though. Most of the time, the only way I could deal was to cuddle up in a chair with a blanket and a book and drink tea. I peed a lot this week.
Some words written this week, but not much. I do appreciate that as I write the story is enriching itself more than I had imagined it could, which is fan-freaking-tabulous. Even with plotting stuff out, I’m always afraid that my ideas are going to fall flat. It’s happened before. I’m far enough in that the characters are starting to speak to me a little, and while they aren’t ‘taking over the story’, they’re definitely stepping up and acting like people instead of cardboard characters. Whew!
A few nights ago I began to go over the finer points of unicorn life. There are four types of unicorns; I won’t go into a lot of detail because they aren’t fully developed and I don’t want to ruin any surprises, but the types are kind of inspired by D&D style characters / the four wizarding houses in Harry Potter. I’m a unicorn nerd, a D&D nerd, and a Harry Potter nerd, so it’s a win win win! By the way, I recently took the Sorting Hat Quiz on Pottermore, and found I’m a Slytherin. Whaaaaaat!? I was a little unsettled when the result came back, but now I’m pretty pleased with myself.
I’m sorry kittens, I’ve ignored you this week! There’s no excuse, I know, and I beg your feline forgiveness. Hopefully getting my writing mojo back means more kitten mayhem, so next week I’ll be able to report better progress.
Last night Mr. Judd and I went to see “Assassins” the musical at the Medicine Hat Musical Theatre. If you can score some tickets, totally go see it, because I had the best time! It was an amazing musical, the actors did a phenominal job, and we left the theatre completely wowed. I will be making a library trip soon to get some books on those American president assassinations (and attempted assassinations).
Tomorrow our new mortgage goes through, and I can officially begin calling back the window and siding contractors we received quotes from. It’s mostly exterior work, so I”m hoping the house won’t get too chaotic, but renovations are a hell unto themselves, so I won’t get those hopes up too high. I kind of am regretting planting all those bulbs in the flower beds around my house now. Will they survive tromping workman boots? Only time will tell.
I got four letters written this week. Some of the envelopes got a little bit fancy with gold lettering and drawings, and I always try to use a pretty variety of stamps. There’s one more letter I want to write, and that one’s to a new penpal I hope to become friends with. If your curious how I write that first letter, you can find an example here.
Until next time, stay safe and weekend hard!
