Steeped in creamy nostalgia, Swirls ice cream is a little joint rumoured to serve some of the best frozen treats in Medicine Hat. Anxious to know if these claims were true, our Ninja Masters sent us to do reconnoissance of Swirls and report back with how good their treats were, and how addictive it is to the residents of Medicine Hat.
If you ask someone for a list of places to get delicious local food or treats, I’m betting that Swirls will be on the list. Over 30 years old, it still maintains the old-time feeling with order windows and outdoor seating. Located on Division Ave and 4th Street, the building was once a Dairy Queen, but when the big chain moved to another location, Swirls opened up and began selling their frosty desserts.
They’ve done quite well for themselves since then. A new store location has opened in Lethbridge, and both Medicine Hat and Lethbridge have mobile ice cream trailers for events. Medicine Hat’s trailer is at Elkwater Provincial Park during the summertime, which is genius in my opinion. Nothing makes camping better than some homemade ice cream. I’m not even being facetious when I say that.
Swirls has a pretty big variety of ice creams. Hard, soft serve, milk shakes, slushes, sundaes, banana splits, cookie creations and so many other novelties. They only take cash, so be sure to stop at the bank first, or you can use the ATM they have installed there.
How did the ice cream itself taste to the Canadian Ninjas? Watch the video to find out, and let us know whether you think soft serve or hard ice cream is better!
