So much fun! So much sun! It makes sense, because Medicine Hat claims to be the sunniest city in Canada, and Spectrum Festival is a celebration of the sun and the start of summer. Mother of pearl, though, we wondered if JonJudd was going to see a tan line around his Batman face paint when he washed it off. We bought our food not long before we headed home, but I still lived in fear that our fudge would melt into a puddle before it could make it to a refrigerator.
There was so much to see and do at Spectrum! You don’t get to see even half of what was there in the video, in part because our camera was acting up (ID 10 T problem) and partly because there was just too much going on to see and capture everything. I would have liked to watch a few more performers, but our Ninja Masters tasked us with a mission, and last mission’s failure was still fresh in my mind. So we pushed forward in a heroic effort to complete our tasks. Did we complete them? Watch to find out.
Our favourite parts of Spectrum were the food (obviously) and the amazingly nice people that we got to talk to. Dee-Dee from Dee-Dee’s Face Painting did our faces, the epic Batman and Tiger (Catwoman?) combo. She told us about an international body painting show hosted in Banff, which would be so amazing to go see! Her mom was in the booth next to her doing henna tattoos, so we talked and joked with both of them while our masterpieces were being done. Funnily story: we decided to stop in at Best Buy afterward to get a cord we needed, and the looks we got as we walked around the store… priceless. That alone was worth the cost of the faceprinting.
Shelley from Toe Business did our airbrush tattoos and my wonderful Canada toenails, and she tried to let us have them for free. In true Canadian fashion we politely insisted on paying, and she politely offered to let us pay just $10 for all the work she did, and then JonJudd politely slammed $20 on the table and told her he didn’t have any change, oops! So while we feel better about not making her work for free, we still didn’t pay full price. Canadians are the best! Plus the ink she used for our tattoos smelled like fruit. Whaaaaaat!? Magic!
There’s more in the video, as well as so much more we just couldn’t capture, but you can bet your kitties we’ll be going to Spectrum Festival again next year to show more performers, vendors and food. Hopefully we’ll see you there!
